Fill the Boot Relay
WHAT IS FILL THE BOOT?
Fill the Boot Firefighter Relay is an Australian first! Thousands of firefighters across Australia will either be running, cycling, walking or flying from station to station over two weeks. They will pass a firefighters boot on at each station, symbolic of the fundraising efforts of thousands of firefighter’s efforts to fill the boot through fundraising to support children and families affected by neuromuscular conditions. Each fire station is encouraged to raise a minimum of $5,000 prior to the relay event which will finish in Sydney 19 October 2012 coinciding with the opening of the World Firefighters Games. At the finish line, relay firefighters will be welcomed by celebrities including Jerry Lewis, politicians, media, 15,000 spectators and 10,000 firefighters from all around the world for a massive celebration.celebration.
FILL THE BOOT HISTORY & BACKGROUND
Jerry Lewis, international comedian, formed a partnership over 60 years ago with the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) in USA, where ‘Fill The Boot’ has been running for many years. Jerry Lewis has a deep love and respect for our Australian firefighters, and as our International Patron for Muscular Dystrophy Foundation (MDF) here in Australia, Jerry is an enthusiastic supporter of the Australian ‘Fill the Boot’ campaign.
Jerry Lewis will be presented with the cheque of the funds raised from fire stations all around Australia on behalf of MDF, where the National Fill The Boot Relay will coincide with the Opening Ceremony of the World Firefighter Games.
