WFG2012 is proud to announce that the
Burns Unit at Westmead Children's Hospital is the official charity of the Games
The Children’s Hospital at Westmead is the most highly respected, largest paediatric centre in NSW, providing excellent care for children from NSW, Australia and across the Pacific Rim. It forms part of the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network (Randwick and Westmead).
Established in 1880, The Children’s Hospital at Westmead is a public Hospital and registered charity with 3,000 staff working in 150 departments. 70,000 sick children and their families are cared for each year in a family-focused, healing environment – this includes 29,000 inpatient admissions, 50,000 emergency department presentations and 735,000 outpatient occasions of service.
Funded by the NSW Government, The Children’s Hospital at Westmead provides significant extra services aided by the generosity of individual and corporate donors.
The Burns Unit is the paediatric arm of the NSW Severe Burns Injury Service and is responsible for the care of all major burns in children in NSW. The Burns Unit staff also provide a 24-hour consultative service for health providers treating children with less severe burns. Approximately 1000 children undergo treatment in the Unit every year, 200 as inpatients in Clubbe Ward and 800 as outpatients in the Burns and Plastic Treatment Centre. We provide care for children in New South Wales, Noumea and other Pacific Rim countries.
The dedicated staff that form part of the Burns Unit include surgeons, pain specialists, anaesthetists and a full range of consultants who deal with the many and varied complications which can occur after a major burn. Nurses, physiotherapists, play and music therapists, occupational therapists, dieticians, social workers, psychologists, chaplains and educators help to make up a committed team of specialists providing the best possible care and treatment to all the children and their families in the Burns Unit.

We are very grateful for the wonderful support and commitment of the World Firefighter’s Games 2012. The World Firefighter’s Games will provide the community an opportunity to witness the dedication and strength of firefighters from across the world and also help raise much needed funds to support the specialty services provided by the staff in the Burns Unit.
We are looking forward to being part of this wonderful event and a big thank you to all those involved in organising the Games.
Good luck to all the competitors – we are cheering for you all!
